Obesity Revisited

I have posted this link to an article in Forbes about Obesity as a follow up to previous articles I've had about this topic.  Since I believe it is our Number One health problem in our country today, I believe it's worth posting.  Please read it.  Doc

50 Cleanest Cities In America

I thought this would be a good topic to add to the Blog today.  I've enclosed a link to the article.  You might want to see how Houston ranked in this article.  Our continuing Big Problem seems to be Air and Toxics.  I wonder where that comes from? Anyway, it still looks like we have very good drinking water from the tap.  I do have a hard time believing New Orleans is way ahead of us after Katrina.  Check it out.  Doc

Novasure Endometrial Ablation

You might be interested in this procedure.  I have just started offering this type of endometrial ablation to select patients with heavy bleeding who have finished their childbearing.  Again, these will be selected patients.  Not everyone is a candidate.  I have provided a link for you to visit if you are interested.  The ablation is an alternative to hysterectomy.  Some people who undergo ablation may still require hysterectomy in the future.  Doc

TOPIC: VAGINITIS

I thought this might be a good topic, since I see so much of this in my clinical practice.  I've included a link to an article on my secondary website at the bottom of this article.  I would like to include additional information that is not covered in this article that I consider very important.  I have been using the AFFIRM TESTING on most of my patients for over one year, and I believe it to be the most sensitive and specific test we gynecologist have today for diagnosing vaginitis.  The microscopic wet mount has become archaic as a tool for diagnosing specific forms of vaginitis.  Too much can be missed on wet mount.  Insist on getting the AFFIRM TEST.   There are only two insurance companies that will not cover it.  Doc

Houston We Have A Problem!

The problem is we need to lose weight.  It's been somewhat of an embarrassment to this city to have the dubious honor in 2005 as the "Fattest City" in the nation, no longer the "Fastest City".  We may not get that dubious distinction this year if we are lucky.  Let's all chip in this year and lose some weight if you feel like you need to.  Even our Mayor is getting involved.  I believe it's a matter of pride for our great city.  Read my previous article on Obesity on the website in Doc's Desk Central.  It was a very good article from The Texas Department of Health.  I have posted a New Topic on my Home page about Exersize and Fitness you should read.  I hate New Year's resolutions since I usually break them, but maybe we could all try to lose a little weight.  Get involved with taking care of yourselves for 2006, so you can be around for many more New Years.  Doc
