America Is Not By Itself On Obesity Issues

I found this interesting article today that I thought deserved a commentary.  Half of European adults are either obese or overweight.  Great Britain leads the pack with the highest obesity reported.  For some unknown reason, I thought we were alone in the fight against obesity.  This article proves we are not.  I believe the Europeans are catching up on our lifestyle.  Whose next?  Doc     Here's the link: http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=healthNews&storyid=2006-02-28T181606Z_01_L2834274_RTRUKOC_0_US-OBESITY-REPORT.xml&rpc=22

Types Of Hysterectomy

I thought this was a good topic to discuss since I seem to be discussing it in great detail in my office.  There are different surgical ways to accomplish hysterectomy.  Depending on the individual patient's history, physical findings, and other findings and needs, the operative approach can vary.   The physician ultimately decides the best approach for the patient.  The physician must feel comfortable with the choice made.  Please be sure you understand the procedure you are having done and understand the outcome to be expected.

Types of Hysterectomy:

>Abdominal-Total and Supracervical

>Vaginal

>Laparoscopic-

     Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy(LAVH)

     Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy

     Laparoscopic Total Hysterectomy

Treatment Of Uterine Fibroids

This is a common female problem that I see in my practice.  I've added some articles on interestingly new and innovative procedures to my website that we are now using in treatment of fibroid tumors of the uterus.  In my opinion, the management of fibroid tumors of the uterus consist of:

1. Observation(Not All Tumors Need Treatment)

2. Hysterectomy

3. Myomectomy  Involves excision of these tumors.

4. Ablation -- Includes: Uterine Artery Embolization and Focused Ultrasound(Ex-Ablate) See article on my Home Page on the Ex-Ablate.  There are some other ablative treatments such as cryo, thermal, and electrocautery that can be done at the time of laparoscopy or hysteroscopy with some success.

5. Drug Therapy-Not successful for definitive treatment.  Doc
